Music for Ukraine - Day 24
Early last month I saw a note about a poem in the Monitor’s latest “Christian
Science Perspective” column. It was “A Prayer for Ukraine and Russia.” Those
words, “and Russia,” took me aback because in my yearning for good for Ukraine,
I had forgotten to include Russia. That led me to remember Mrs. Eddy’s article
in Miscellaneous Writings, “Love Your Enemies” in which she says “’Love
thine enemies’ is identical with ‘Thou has no enemies.’” And that led me to
tonight’s song. (You can find “A Prayer for Ukraine and Russia” at
this link.)

Love Your Enemies
Grace Barrett and Avelyn M. Kerr
Ye have heard that it hath been said,
Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, love your enemies,
Do good to them that hate you,
Bless them that curse you,
And pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in Heaven.
For He maketh the sun to shine on the evil and on the good.
He sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye?
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others?
Do not even the publicans so?
But I say unto you, love your enemies,
Do good to them that hate you,
Bless them that curse you,
And pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in Heaven.
