Music for Ukraine - Day 23

Several weeks ago, I saw a brief video made by Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s office. It showed the destruction of the war, but about 2/3 of the way through, it looked ahead to the establishment of peace and the rebuilding of the country. It was an inspiring, positive vision. That made me think of tonight’s song: “the hour is hastening on… when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,” etc. And then, before that hour has come, the song ends with the thought to “begin the song of praise.”

To get the full effect of this beautiful song, I urge you to listen to the choral version, using the link toward the bottom.

Hymn of Peace
Words by Katharina A. von Schlegel (1752)
Music by Mary McDonald

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side;
Leave to thy God to order and provide.
In every change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past.
Be still, my soul: all blessed shall meet at last.

Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways.
So shall He view thee with a well-pleased eye.
Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise.
Be still, my soul.
