Music for Ukraine - Day 20

I discovered tonight’s song very recently, and when I recorded it for church a year ago, I had little idea how much it would mean to me today. It was published in England the year before Hitler annexed Austria, a time when there was great apprehension about war in Europe. May those now in our thoughts feel God’s “everlasting arms” encompassing them and feel that “The terrors that in darkness walk unseen/ Are powerless to harm.”

Words by Marian L. Cobb; music by Mabel Browning Fairlie

Darkness and light are both alike to Thee;
How can I fear the night!
Thine everlasting arms encompass me,
And where Thou art is light.

Night shineth as the day to those who know,
To those who know the light of Life is here.
I claim Thy presence Love divine,
And so I shut the door on fear.

The terrors that in darkness walk unseen
Are powerless to harm;
I lay me down in peace and sleep serene,
In thine enfolding arm.

Darkness and light are both alike to Thee;
How can I fear the night!
Thine everlasting arms encompass me,
And where Thou art is light.
