Music for Ukraine - Day 14

I know that all our human hearts yearn for those who, to human sense, are suffering in Ukraine. And where is it that we so often turn in times of perceived danger? To the Ninety-First Psalm. Tonight, I’m sending a musical setting of the psalm by Grove Barton, with his adaptation of the words. There is little that we can do to offer human help to those in danger overseas, but our knowing that they “dwell in the secret place” is not nothing. It is affirming a truth which can be proven for each of us – and all of them – here and now, despite the appearances of mortal sense.

The Ninety-First Psalm
Grove Barton

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
He is my refuge and my fortress:
My God! In Him will I trust.

If I’m on the mountain top or on the raging sea,
If my footsteps seem to stray, I know thou art with me.
I shall not be afraid for the terror by night
Nor for the arrow that flieth by day,
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness,
Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noon day.
For He shall give His angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways.
They shall bear me up in their hands
Lest I dash my foot against a stone.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
