Solo music you no longer need?
Vocal Works can put it to good use!
|
Multiple
Missions. The Solo
Bank was created primarily to help church music committees select music
and help singers evaluate and learn a new piece. However, Vocal
Works has broader missions: 1. To build a
permanent library of church solo music for future generations and
2. To acquire
original copies of copyright-protected music for distribution to those
who need it. |
Background.
Over 20 years ago, when I started singing regularly in my own and other
local Christian Science churches, I had no idea of the rich variety of sacred
solo music published over the past 120 years. There are thousands of
pieces suitable for performance as a Sunday solo, so many of them Scriptural or
embodying a pure Scientific message. It didn't take long before I decided
to acquire and record as many of these compositions as I could. I
purchased music from many different sources, mostly starting in 2000. And
in recent years, churches and individuals have sent me music they could no
longer use. I have organized and annotated this music, making and
accepting recordings of the best of these compositions. Why have I done
this and why should you help me? |
The Church Solo Repository.
Who would care about building and
maintaining a comprehensive library of CS-appropriate solo music? There is
certainly no financial incentive to do so. New music is constantly
appearing, and older music is ignored, even discarded, except for a narrow group
of sentimental favorites. A precious resource is slowly disappearing.
I have accepted as my mission, and that of Vocal Works, to acquire, categorize,
and preserve out-of-print solo music. |
You can help!
- Do you know of a church that is closing or a soloist who is retiring?
Please put them in touch with me.
- Does your church have music you will no longer use
― duplicates or pieces out-of-favor with
you, your singer(s) or your congregation?
I will accept all donated music and pay shipping charges. But what
if I already have copies of the music you might send?
|
Distributing Out-of-Print Music. Most Christian Science churches
and soloists are aware that it is a violation of law to copy and distribute
music published after 1928. With so much of the music published between
1928 and the present day currently out of print, where can a singer or a music
committee turn to acquire music from this period that has been recommended (or
heard on the Solo Bank)? Since 2018, I have been making my duplicates available.
This is original music, not copies, and it is in reasonably good condition. Of
course, I'm offering it for sale to cover mailing costs and a reasonable return
for my efforts. But I'm just the middle man between your unusable music
and someone (or some church) for whom it would be a treasure. |
Music donations from
churches and people like you
are essential to this work! |
Call me at the number below or send an e-mail, and I'll give you an address
to use for shipping your music. Thank you!
